Time off, built in: vacation, sick, personal, and holiday pay

v2026.07.02

July 2, 2026

Time off no longer lives in a spreadsheet next to FabWise — it's built in, from setting up policies to requesting a day off to seeing it show up correctly in payroll.

Set up how time off works for your shop

Create a policy for each type of time off — Vacation, Sick, Personal, Holiday, or a type you name yourself. Choose how it's earned: per hours worked, per pay period, a full year granted at once, or manual (the right fit for holiday pay, where you decide when a holiday happens). Every policy is paid time off — there's no separate unpaid-leave tracking to manage.

  • Assign a policy to a worker with an effective date, and set an opening balance if they're bringing banked time over from before FabWise.
  • Bulk grants hand out hours to a group at once — a company holiday, a shutdown day — and a grant against a manual policy records the hours as granted and used the same day, so a holiday shows as paid without leaving a phantom balance behind.

Workers can see their balance and request time off

From Performance → Time Off, workers see what they've got available, what's projected after any pending requests, and what they've used this year. Submitting a request takes a few taps — pick the type, the dates, and the hours per day — and FabWise checks the balance automatically so a request for more time than's available gets caught before it reaches a supervisor.

  • Approvals and denials happen from the admin Time Off Requests queue, with a reason recorded for a denial.
  • If an approved day off covers a scheduled shift, FabWise cancels that shift automatically — no need to also go remove it from the schedule.

Time off shows up right in Timecards and payroll

Approved time off appears in a worker's week in Timecards alongside worked hours — even a week made up entirely of vacation still shows up and still gets signed off, just like any other week. The payroll export breaks time off out by type (Vacation, Sick, Personal, Holiday, and any custom type your shop uses), so your payroll provider can classify it correctly.

No action needed — Time Off is available now under Admin → Time Off and Workstation → Performance.
