Set Up a Worker's Tablet

You set up each Workstation tablet once, then hand it to the worker. No Google account, no password, no passkey — scan a code and it's ready.

Why it matters

A Workstation tablet belongs to one worker. Once you set it up, that worker just opens the app and starts working — there's no login, ever. You do the whole setup from the admin console and deliver a ready-to-use tablet.

This works on any cheap Wi-Fi tablet. The worker never needs an email address, a phone number, or a Google account.

What you need

  • The worker added in FabWise with Workstation access turned on (their Devices tab → Workstation → Enabled). Workstation requires the Professional plan.
  • The tablet, connected to Wi-Fi, with the FabWise Workstation app installed (see the install guide for your tablet).
  • A way to scan a QR code — the tablet's camera is easiest.

Set it up

  1. In the admin console, open the worker's profile → Devices tab.
  2. Under Workstation, tap Set up tablet. A QR code appears (it's good for 24 hours and works once).
  3. On the tablet, point the camera at the QR code and open the link it shows. You'll see a confirmation screen with the worker's name.
  4. Tap Set up this tablet. That's it — the tablet is now bound to that worker and opens straight to their dashboard.
  5. Hand the tablet to the worker.

The worker unlocks the tablet however they like (fingerprint, face, PIN, or pattern) — that's the tablet's own lock screen, set in the tablet's settings. FabWise doesn't add a separate sign-in.

Replacing or reassigning a tablet

  • Broken or lost tablet? Just set up a new one for the same worker (steps above). The old tablet is automatically cut off — if it ever turns up, it won't work.
  • Giving a tablet to a different worker? Generate the new worker's QR and scan it on the same tablet. It re-binds to the new worker, and the previous worker's access on that tablet ends.
  • Need to cut a tablet off right now? Open Settings → Devices → Workstation Tablets (or the worker's Devices tab) and tap Revoke. The tablet stops working on its next screen tap and drops back to the setup screen.
  • Handing a tablet back? On the tablet, open Settings → This tablet → Sign out this tablet. It parks the tablet until you set it up for someone.

No work is ever lost when a tablet is replaced — everything the worker captured is saved on FabWise's servers, not on the tablet.

Good to know

  • A worker can have one tablet at a time. Setting up a new one automatically retires the old one.
  • The setup QR is single-use and expires after 24 hours. If it expires, just tap Set up tablet again for a fresh one.
  • The admin dashboard shows a Tablets to set up list so you can see at a glance who still needs a device.
