Why it matters
The hours you send to your provider should be the hours you actually checked. FabWise keeps the worker's original record intact and tracks every correction separately, so a corrected shift still shows what originally happened. You review, you fix what's off, and you have a clear audit trail.
The two kinds of times
Every shift has two layers:
- Captured time — exactly what the worker recorded at Start Shift and End Shift. This never changes.
- Supervisor corrections — adjustments you make during review. These are stored separately, with your name and the time of the change.
You are adding a correction on top of the capture, not erasing it.
Where to find it
- Page: Shift Detail
- Path: Admin → Timecards → [select a week] → View Shift on the row you want (admins and managers)
- Supervisors: Admin → Users → the worker → Shifts, then the shift
- Who can see it: Supervisors, managers, and admins
To work through a whole week at once, use Timecards instead — see Hours Review.
Supervisors reach a shift a different way. The Timecards page is admin and manager only, so a supervisor opens Users → the worker → Shifts and picks the shift there. Same page, same actions — only the route in differs.
What you'll see
The Shift Review strip
When a completed shift needs your attention, a slim amber Shift Review strip sits near the top of the page. It tells you how many items need attention before the shift is ready for payroll. That's all it does — it's a signal, not a place you act. The strip disappears the moment you resolve the last item.
The amber section cards
You resolve each item right where it belongs. The section it concerns — End, Start, Break, Personal Time, or Tasks — turns amber and shows the item plus the action to fix it. The action itself carries the instruction, so the card does not repeat it back to you. A shift with two unrelated items shows two amber cards, each with its own fix. You read the facts and act on them in the same place, no scrolling back to a separate panel.
What to do
Acknowledge an anomaly
Some items are just things worth a look — a late arrival, an early departure, an unscheduled shift. The card gives you a heading and a single line of fact — what happened, and the specific detail that matters (the auto-end time, the worker, the abandoned break's start tap). The full arithmetic behind it lives in the Inspection Results panel in the sidebar, so the card stays readable. If the times are right as-is, add an optional note and tap Acknowledge.
Acknowledge is per item. Acknowledging one card clears only that card — any other open items stay open until you handle them.
If something about the shift changes later — a time is corrected, a break is updated — your acknowledgment reopens automatically so you review the updated version.
Correct an auto-ended shift
If a worker forgets to End Shift, FabWise auto-ends it after the maximum shift length and leaves the end time blank — it never guesses a clock-out. The End card shows Correction required: you supply the real end time. There's no fabricated number standing in for it.
You have two quick paths:
- Left at scheduled time — one tap records the scheduled end as the worker's end. Use this when they worked their normal shift and simply forgot to End Shift.
- Enter end time — opens a short form for when the worker left early or in an emergency. Enter the actual end and an optional note.
Both are reversible — if you pick the wrong one, just correct it again. That's why there's no confirmation step. The worker's original Start Shift tap stays untouched either way.
Managers who can review shifts but don't have manual end-time access resolve the same shift through Correct times — it records the end the same way.
The meal break — taken or skipped
If a worker doesn't confirm their meal at End Shift, the Break card asks you to settle it:
- Worker took the meal — the scheduled meal is deducted.
- Worked through it — no meal is deducted.
One tap, reversible, with an optional note. On a qualifying shift, an unconfirmed meal defaults to taken (the scheduled meal is deducted) — so the number is already right; confirming here just records your decision.
Correct any time on any shift
You don't need an open item to make a correction. On any unlocked shift — even a clean one — use the Adjust action in the relevant section to correct a time. The shift recalculates against the correction.
When everything is resolved
When the last item on a shift is cleared, the strip and every amber highlight vanish and the shift is ready for sign-off. Sign-off happens per worker per week on the Timecards page — see Hours Review for the full flow.
Once a week is signed off, its shifts are locked and read-only. To change one, unlock the week on the timecard first.
Common questions
Q: I acknowledged an item earlier and it came back — why?
A: Something about the shift changed after you acknowledged it. FabWise records what the shift looked like when you acknowledged, and reopens if the facts change. Review the updated item.
Q: Why can't I acknowledge an auto-ended shift away?
A: An auto-ended shift is missing a real end time. There's no fact to confirm — you have to supply the end before the shift can be ready. Acknowledging a missing number would put a guess into payroll.
Q: I corrected one item but the shift still shows in review — is that wrong?
A: No. Acknowledging or correcting clears only that item. The shift stays in review until every open item is resolved.
Q: Will a correction overwrite what the worker actually recorded?
A: Never. Corrections are stored on their own layer with your name and timestamp. The worker's original capture is always preserved.
