Requesting Time Off

Check your time off balance and request vacation, sick, or personal days right from Workstation.

Why it matters

You shouldn't have to ask your supervisor what your vacation balance is or track your own request in a text message. Workstation shows you what you've got and lets you ask for time off in a few taps — and you can always see whether it's been approved.

How it works

FabWise tracks your time off balance automatically, based on the policies your shop has set up for you (vacation, sick, personal, or holiday time). Your balance updates the moment a request is approved or a supervisor grants you time.

Note: this is different from Personal Time — the short break you start and end during a shift. Time off is a full day (or part of a day) away from work, requested and approved ahead of time.

Where to find it

  • Who can see it: Any worker whose shop has Time Off turned on

What you'll see

Your balance

For each time off type you're assigned to, Workstation shows three numbers:

  • Available — what you have banked right now.
  • Projected — what you'll have left after any pending requests are counted. This is what you're really working with when you decide whether to ask for more time off.
  • Used this year — how much you've taken so far in your current policy year.

Your history

A running list of your approved time off, most recent first — the date, the type, and how many hours.

What to do

Submitting a request

  1. From the Time Off page, tap Request time off.
  2. Choose the type of time off, the date range, and how many hours per day you're requesting.
  3. Submit.

Your request goes to your supervisor for review. You'll see it listed as pending until it's decided.

FabWise checks your projected balance before letting the request through — if what you're asking for is more than you have available (counting any other pending requests), the request is blocked and you'll be asked to adjust it.

Checking your status

Your requests list shows every request you've submitted, with its current status — pending, approved, or denied. If a request is denied, you'll see the reason your supervisor gave.

There's no cancel button on a submitted request in Workstation — if you need to withdraw a request, talk to your supervisor.

Common questions

Q: Why was my request blocked?
A: FabWise blocks a request that would use more time off than you have available. Check your projected balance — it already accounts for any other pending requests.

Q: I got approved for time off, but I was scheduled to work that day. What happens to my shift?
A: If your approved time off covers the whole scheduled shift, FabWise cancels it for you — you won't be marked as missing work.

Q: Do I get a notification when my request is decided?
A: Yes — check your requests list in Workstation for the current status. There's no push notification for a decision; check back or ask your supervisor.

Q: Can I request a partial day?
A: Yes — set the hours per day to less than a full shift when you submit your request.
