Creating a User Without an Email
Some workers don't have a work email. Add them to FabWise anyway — they use a PIN at the kiosk, no email required.
Why it matters
Most shop workers don't need an email address in FabWise. They clock in at the kiosk with a 4-digit PIN, take breaks, and clock out. Email is for transactional messages (schedule alerts, messages from a supervisor) — none of which a kiosk-only worker needs.
Leaving the email blank is the right answer in this case. The system accepts it.
Email is required for anyone who needs Supervisor, Manager, or Admin access — those roles sign in to the admin console or the FabWise (iOS) app, and both are email-based (see Signing In to FabWise). Leaving email blank only works for a shop-floor worker on the User role.
How it works
When you add a new user:
- Name is always required.
- Email is optional for the User role — the standard shop-floor worker. Required for Supervisor, Manager, and Admin.
- PIN is required if you turn on Kiosk access.
For a shop worker with the User role and no email — the most common case — there's no sign-in credential to manage beyond the PIN. They tap their name at the kiosk and enter it to clock in; that's it.
Where to find it
- Page: Add User form
- Path: Admin > Users > Add User
- Who can see it: Account admins
What you'll see
Adding a kiosk-only worker (no email)
- Click Add User.
- Enter first name, last name.
- Leave Email blank.
- Pick Role: User.
- Check Kiosk access.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN.
- Save.
The worker now appears in the kiosk roster. They tap their name and enter their PIN to clock in.
What to do
Letting a worker change their PIN
PINs are set by admins, not workers. Workers don't have a "change PIN" UI of their own. From the user's edit page, you can change their PIN at any time — type the new PIN in the field and save.
A worker forgot their PIN
Same flow — edit their user, type a new PIN, save. Tell the worker the new PIN.
Adding email later
If a worker eventually gets a work email and wants to use it, edit the user, paste the email, save. They get a verification email; once verified, the address is on file for messages and, if their role changes, for sign-in.
Common questions
Why doesn't the system require email for every user?
Because email is a contact attribute, not an identity. A shop-floor worker's identity in FabWise is their PIN at the kiosk. Email is for receiving messages — and a kiosk-only worker doesn't need to receive messages.
What if a kiosk worker later needs admin access?
Edit the user, change the role to Supervisor, Manager, or Admin. Those roles require a deliverable email, so add one first if the worker doesn't have one on file — they'll sign in with it going forward, in addition to their PIN at the kiosk if they keep clocking in there too.
Can two workers have the same name?
Yes. FabWise doesn't need workers to have unique names — the kiosk and the roster both key off the underlying user record, not the name, so two "Jane Smith"s at the same shop show up as two separate people with their own PINs and history.
