Set Up a Workstation Tablet (Android)
The Android steps for setting up a worker's Workstation tablet. You (the supervisor) do this once, then hand the tablet over — no Google account, no passkey, no sign-in for the worker.
Why it matters
A Workstation tablet belongs to one worker. You set it up from the admin console and deliver a ready-to-use tablet — the worker just opens the app and starts working, with no login. This is the Android-specific version of [Set Up a Worker's Tablet](set-up-a-tablet.md).
Works on any Wi-Fi Android tablet. The worker never needs an email, a phone number, or a Google account.
What you need
- The worker added in FabWise with Scheduling/time tracking on and Workstation access, on the Professional plan.
- The Android tablet, on Wi-Fi.
- Chrome (pre-installed on most Android devices; otherwise install it from the Play Store).
Step 1. Install the app on the tablet
Add the Workstation app to the tablet's home screen so it opens full-screen — see [Install the Workstation App on Android](install-android.md). (One minute; you can also do this right after Step 3.)
Step 2. Generate the setup code
- In the admin console, open the worker's profile → Devices tab.
- Under Workstation, tap Set up tablet. A QR code appears (good for 24 hours, single use).
Step 3. Scan it on the tablet
- Open the Camera app on the tablet and point it at the QR code — most Android cameras show a tap-to-open notification. (Or tap the Copy link in the modal and open it in Chrome on the tablet.)
- The tablet opens a confirm screen showing the worker's name. Check it's the right person.
- Tap Set up this tablet. It's now bound to that worker and opens straight to their dashboard — no sign-in.
Step 4. Hand it over
Give the tablet to the worker. They unlock it with whatever the tablet's own lock screen uses (fingerprint, face, PIN, or pattern — set in the tablet's Settings); FabWise adds no separate sign-in.
Replacing or reassigning a tablet
- Broken or lost? Set up a new tablet for the same worker (steps above). The old one is cut off automatically.
- Different worker? Generate the new worker's QR and scan it on the same tablet — it re-binds and the previous worker's access on it ends.
- Cut a tablet off now? Settings → Devices → Workstation Tablets (or the worker's Devices tab) → Revoke. It stops working on its next tap and drops to the setup screen.
No work is ever lost when a tablet is replaced — everything is saved on FabWise's servers, not on the tablet.
Troubleshooting
The QR code won't scan
- Hold the camera 6–12 inches from the code, fully inside the frame.
- Screen glare? Tap Copy in the modal and open the link in Chrome on the tablet instead.
"Invalid or expired"
The code is single-use and expires after 24 hours. Tap Set up tablet again for a fresh one.
"This user doesn't track time"
A Workstation tablet is for a worker who tracks time. Turn on Scheduling for them on their profile first, then set up the tablet.
Where to find it
- Workstation URL:
https://workstation.fabwise.app - Where you set up tablets: each worker's Devices tab in the admin console
- Setup code validity: 24 hours, single use
