Why it matters
When a worker forgets to clock out or skips confirming a meal, the sooner you settle it the cleaner your records stay. Waiting until payroll means guessing at what happened days later. Correcting in the moment — while you still remember the day — keeps the hours you send to your provider accurate and keeps your team's data trustworthy all week long. The iOS app does this with the same care as the web app: the worker's original record is never erased, and every correction carries your name and the time you made it.
Where to find it
- Page: Shift detail, in the FabWise iOS app on your phone
- How you get there: Tap a flagged-shift notification, or open a flagged shift from your Alerts list
- Who can do it: Supervisors, managers, and admins (some actions depend on your permissions — see below)
The deep work — building schedules, creating shifts, editing tasks, changing settings — still lives in the web app. The iOS app is for the quick review-and-correct acts you do on the floor.
What you'll see
When you open a flagged shift, each item that needs attention shows what it is and how to resolve it. There are two kinds:
Needs review
A soft anomaly worth a look — a late arrival, an early departure, an unscheduled shift. The times may be perfectly correct; the app is just flagging it for your eyes.
Needs correction
Something is genuinely missing and has to be supplied before the shift is ready — most often an auto-ended shift where the worker never clocked out. A shift that needs a correction shows no hours for that piece, because FabWise never invents a number. You'll see the correction action instead of a plain "Approve."
What to do
Acknowledge something that's fine
For a needs review item where the times are right as they stand, tap Acknowledge. That clears just that item — anything else on the shift stays open until you handle it. If a fact about the shift changes later, your acknowledgment reopens on its own so you see the updated version.
Fix an auto-ended shift
If a worker forgets to End Shift, FabWise auto-ends it and leaves the end time blank. You supply the real end:
- Left at scheduled time — one tap when they worked their normal shift and just forgot to clock out.
- Enter end time — for when they left early; enter the actual end and an optional note.
Confirm the meal break
If the meal wasn't confirmed, settle it with one tap — Worker took the meal (the meal is deducted) or Worked through it (no deduction).
Correct the times
When a start or end time is simply wrong, use Correct times to enter the right ones. The shift recalculates against your correction.
Every correction is reversible — if you pick the wrong one, just correct it again. And every correction sits on top of the worker's original record; it never overwrites what they actually tapped.
What your permissions allow
Some actions depend on your role:
- Acknowledging, correcting times, and confirming the meal are available to supervisors, managers, and admins.
- Manually starting or ending a shift (and marking an auto-ended shift as "left at scheduled time") is available to supervisors and admins. If you're a manager and don't see those, resolve the shift through Correct times instead — it records the end the same way.
Common questions
Q: Why can't I just approve an auto-ended shift?
A: An auto-ended shift is missing a real end time — there's nothing to approve yet. You supply the end first. Approving a missing number would put a guess into payroll, so the app asks for the correction instead.
Q: If I correct one item, why is the shift still flagged?
A: Correcting or acknowledging clears only that item. The shift stays flagged until every open item is resolved.
Q: Will my correction erase what the worker recorded?
A: Never. The worker's original capture is always kept. Your correction is stored separately with your name and the time you made it.
Q: The shift is locked and I can't correct it — why?
A: Its week has been signed off. Unlock the week on the timecard in the web app first, then the correction is available again.
Q: I'm getting a lot of flagged-shift notifications. Can I cut them down?
A: Yes. In your notification settings, turn on correction-required only to be pushed only for shifts that actually need a correction. The acknowledgeable ones still appear in your Alerts list — you just won't get a push for each.
